                  ---------------------------------------------
                     LINUX Driver Installation Overview
                     ----------------------------------

  RedHat Linux 6.x/ 7.0
  ---------------------

  Contents of the Subdirectory:
  -----------------------------

fa31x.c The linux driver source code file
fa31x.h The linux interfaces header file
      fa31x.o The linux dirver
makefile Makefile for generating driver object file

  1. Force NIC card to operate in specific mode with 5 values:

         Usage: insmod fa31x link_speed=n (n=0...4)

         0/null: Autonegotiate 10/100 full/half
         1: Force 10Mb Half duplex
         2: Force 100Mb Half duplex
         3: Force 10Mb Full duplex
         4: Force 100Mb Full duplex

  2. Procedures of on-line change driver and operation mode:

         step 1: cp fa31x.o /lib/modules/2.2.xx/net/

         step 2: insmod fa31x link_speed=n (n=0...4)
                 (install the new fa31x module)

         step 3: ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
                 (active your ethernet card)

         step 4: ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
                 (check if eth0 work)

  3. System configuration modification:

     (1) To make the driver load when the system boots up,
         you can execute "netconf".

     (2) Enter setting in the "Client tasks/Basic host
         information/Adaptor 1"

         IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
         Netmask: 255.255.255.0
         Net device: eth0
         Kernel module: fa31x

     (3) After ending the previous step, adding th following
line to the buttom of /etc/conf.modules or
         /etc/modules.conf

         options fa31x link_speed=n (n=0...4)

     (4) Then your driver will work on the specific mode every
         time you boot.
